TNTP seeks a Site Manager of Instruction for TNTP’s Client Team. This position is based in the Northeast and preferably Massachusetts and surrounding areas and is available immediately. Travel up to 40% required.

Staff on TNTP’s Client Team work alongside teachers, school leaders, districts, states and other organizations to help them achieve their goals for students.

What You’ll Do
As a Site Manager of Instruction, you will partner with our clients in Massachusetts and surrounding areas, including school districts, charter management organizations and state Departments of Education, to implement reform strategies aimed to raise the quality of classroom instruction. Projects are diverse in scope and currently include working with our Boston and Western Mass teams to provide instructional expertise, professional development, coaching, and leadership within our new teacher accelerated pipeline programs. Additionally, you will work with our clients in the Springfield Empowerment Zone Partnership (SEZP) to support improvements in ELA instruction in multiple schools through a professional learning cohort.  Specific responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting and building capacity in the BPS and TWM staff to execute a high-quality teacher training program for new teachers, including refining and managing daily curriculum, coaching new teachers and leading or supporting professional development
  • Managing and developing a team of coaches and new teacher support staff
  • Monitoring the overall quality of new teacher training, including identifying and acting on trends in Staff and Fellow performance based on data, and developing interventions/strategies for improving teacher performance
  • Developing and implementing innovative approaches to teacher development during the school year
  • Implementing a blended (in-person and online combined) professional learning cohort for ELA teachers and leaders in turnaround schools in Springfield, MA, to improve ELA instruction and outcomes for students
  • Developing tools and resources to respond to cohort needs
  • Monitoring progress around ELA instructional improvements in the SEZP and adapting the cohort activities based on data
  • Contributing to an inclusive, positive and productive TNTP team culture
  • Tracking progress towards contract goals and making strategic decisions regarding client management and support

We expect our Site Managers to:

  • Bring deep expertise in instruction and teacher development. You know how to move teachers from good to great, whether through direct coaching of teachers or through the design and execution of high quality professional development for teachers and/or coaches and school leaders. You believe in relying on practical, skills-based training strategies early in a teacher’s career to lay a solid foundation for long-term effectiveness in the classroom. You know great teaching when you see it – whether you are watching a teacher deliver a rigorous, standards aligned lesson or looking at student performance data, you can identify where that teacher is effective and what she needs to do to improve.
  • Get things done. You develop a strategic vision and are able to implement it. Your ability to chart a clear course, juggle many tasks and priorities, and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment will bring clarity to the complex projects you’ll lead. You are confident working independently and don’t hesitate to draw on the expertise of others to achieve great things.
  • Lead a thriving team. You are able to manage and develop a team of seasonal coaches toward ambitious program and professional development goals.
  • Partner with education leaders.  You’ll collaborate with TWM partner schools  in our work to develop strong pre-service training experiences for teachers.
  • Be comfortable with the unknown. Ambiguity doesn’t scare you; just the opposite, you thrive on it. You will use your creative instincts and information from your staff to develop solutions in an ambiguous and fast-paced environment.


  • A strong education background and instructional skill set with at least three years of K-12 teaching experience and some background in ELA (required; ESL or Special Education experience preferred)
  • Strong familiarity with the Common Core State Standards (required)
  • Strong staff management experience, particularly managing and developing teachers – as a department chair, assistant principal, instructional coach or other instructional lead (highly preferred)
  • Ability to implement targeted interventions to immediately improve new teachers’ performance
    A commitment to constant learning and improvement, in both your own work and the work of others
  • Excellent forecasting, prioritization and planning skills, and experience managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders
    Ability to overcome barriers and provide seamless service to program partners and stakeholders
  • Ability to communicate compelling feedback that motivates and inspires a variety of stakeholders to make immediate improvements to practices that will accelerate student achievement through rigorous instruction
  • Experience working in high-need schools or with high-needs populations (preferred)

TNTP offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience in a similar position with the potential for an annual performance based bonus.
